Vegan Animal Style Fries with Cheddar Cheese
Ingredients
Vegan Cheddar Cheese
- 2 cups cashews, soaked overnight
- 1 orange or red bell pepper, roasted
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup nutritional yeast
- 2 Tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tsp miso
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1 Tbsp hot sauce (optional)
- 1 habanero pepper (optional)
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 cup water (extra)
- 2 Tbsp agar agar (or gelatin, not vegan)
Vegan Animal Style Fries
- 1 lb potatoes, cut into fry shape
- 1 Tbsp avocado oil or cooking spray
- Salt and pepper to taste
Thousand Island Sauce
- 1/4 cup tofu paste (or vegan mayo)
- 1/4 cup vegan BBQ sauce (or ketchup)
Preparation
Prepare Vegan Cheddar Cheese
Blend all ingredients except the extra 1 cup of water and agar agar until smooth.
In a pot, whisk the extra 1 cup of water and agar agar.
Add the cheese sauce to the pot and bring to a boil, then reduce to simmer. Stir constantly for 5-10 minutes until thick.
Pour the mixture into a loaf pan lined with parchment paper and let it cool before refrigerating for a few hours until set.
Make Vegan Animal Style Fries
Preheat the oven to the specified temperature.
Toss the potato fries with avocado oil (or spray) and season with salt and pepper.
Bake the fries until crispy, or air fry for about 20 minutes.
Prepare Thousand Island Sauce
Mix the tofu paste and vegan BBQ sauce until well combined.
Assemble
Place the baked fries in a baking dish.
Pour the prepared Vegan Cheddar Cheese and Thousand Island Sauce over the fries.
Bake for a few minutes until the cheese slightly melts.
Serve the Vegan Animal Style Fries warm.
