Crispy Sesame and Garlic Tofu
Ingredients
Crispy tofu marinade
- 1 block firm tofu (400g approx.)
- 1 garlic clove, finely diced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp chili garlic sauce (optional)
- 1 tsp maple syrup or brown sugar
- 1 tsp olive oil
- Some ground pepper
Sesame tahini dressing
- 1/4 cup tamari or soy sauce
- 2 tbsp tahini
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
- Juice of 1 lime
- 1 tbsp maple syrup or brown sugar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 garlic clove, finely diced
Preparation
Cut pressed tofu in your preferred shape, such as cubes
Create the marinade by whisking together diced garlic, tamari or soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, chili garlic sauce and maple syrup in a large bowl, then add tofu and gently mix to ensure it is well covered, transfer to a container and let it marinate for at least 4 hours or overnight for better flavor absorption
Preheat oven to 210°C and line a baking sheet with baking paper
Transfer marinated tofu back into a large bowl and toss with grapeseed or olive oil to coat, then add cornstarch and ground pepper and gently combine until well covered
Transfer tofu to the baking sheet and bake in the oven for about 30 minutes or until golden brown, flipping halfway through
While tofu is roasting, make the sesame garlic sauce by whisking all ingredients in a bowl or shaking them together in a jar
