Festive Gingerbread Recipe for Christmas Memories

Ingredients

  • 150g plain flour
  • 125g butter
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 2 tsp ginger
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 4 tbsp golden syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 150g brown sugar (optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 170°C fan/190°C.

  2. In a bowl, combine 150g plain flour, 125g butter, 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda, 2 tsp ginger, and 1 tsp cinnamon. Rub the ingredients together until they resemble breadcrumbs.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix 4 tbsp golden syrup with 1 egg. Optionally, add 150g brown sugar to the mixture.

  4. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients to form a dough.

  5. Roll out the dough and use cookie cutters to cut out festive shapes.

  6. Place the cutouts on a baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

  7. Once baked, remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.

  8. Decorate the gingerbread with icing or other festive decorations if desired.
