Simple Yeastless Naan Bread
Ingredients
Dough
- 250g self raising flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp nigella/onion seeds
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 50g plain yoghurt
- 130ml warm water
Chilli garlic topping
- 4 tbsp ghee or butter
- 1 tbsp freshly chopped red chilli
- 1 tbsp finely grated garlic
- Handful freshly chopped coriander
- Pinch of salt
Preparation
Add the flour and baking powder to a mixing bowl and combine. Mix in the remaining ingredients with a fork and bring them together into a dough using your hands.
Add a little flour to your hands and the kitchen top and knead the dough for 5 minutes. Put it back into the bowl, cover and set aside for 1-2 hours.
Roll out each bread thinly on a floured surface into a round or teardrop shape, add to a dry, very hot pan and turn approximately 60-90 seconds to cook the other side. Each bread should bubble up a little and have a nice bit of color on each side.
Topping
Melt the butter in a little pan on the hob on low, add the red chilli for a couple of minutes and then the garlic and warm through for a few more minutes, then stir in the chopped coriander, stir it through and spoon and brush about a tablespoon of the mixture over each naan.
