Moth Dal with Tomato and Spice Masala

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Moth Dal
  • some salt
  • some turmeric powder
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 onion
  • few garlic gloves
  • 1/2 inch ginger
  • green chilli (optional)
  • ghee
  • some hing
  • some red chilli powder
  • some garam masala
  • fresh coriander for garnish
  • mirchi ka tadka (optional)
  • water as needed

Preparation

  1. Soak 1 cup of Moth Dal overnight.

  2. In the morning boil it in a pressure cooker with some salt and turmeric powder for 15 minutes at low flame.

  3. At the same time, grind 2 tomatoes, 1 onion, few garlic gloves, 1/2 inch ginger and green chilli (optional) into a paste.

  4. In a pan, add ghee; when it's hot, add some hing, red chilli powder and garam masala.

  5. Now add the paste and cook this masala till the ghee separates.

  6. Mix dal into the masala and give it a boil.

  7. Add water to adjust consistency.

  8. Garnish it with fresh coriander and mirchi ka tadka if you wish.

  9. Enjoy with Indian bread of your choice.
