Pan-Fried Steamed Vegetable Buns

Ingredients

Dough

  • 300 g [~2 1/2 cups] all-purpose flour
  • 175 ml [3/4 cup] hot water
  • a pinch of salt

Filling

  • 1/2 lb [250g] green beans
  • 14 oz [397g] firm tofu
  • 1 small carrot
  • a handful of cilantro
  • 3 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper

Preparation

  1. Mix all dough ingredients together, knead into a dough, and let it rest for 30 minutes.

  2. Divide the dough into 10 portions and roll each into a 4-5 inch circular disk.

  3. Mix all filling ingredients until well-combined and mold into 10 patties.

  4. Place a filling patty in the middle of a dough wrapper and pleat to seal.

  5. Dip the smooth side in water and then in sesame seeds.

  6. In a heated non-stick pan with oil, pan-fry the sesame side until slightly brown.

  7. Flip the bun and cook for a few seconds.

  8. Add a cup of water, cover, and cook over low-medium heat until water evaporates and buns are cooked through.

  9. Serve warm with a side of green onions in chili oil and soy sauce.

Tips

  1. No yeast is needed for this recipe.

  2. This recipe works great with any vegetables.
