Rava Upma Breakfast Dish

Ingredients

  • 1 cup suji or rava
  • ghee, as needed
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 or more green chilies
  • 1 teaspoon groundnuts
  • 1 teaspoon roasted chana dal
  • 5-6 cashews
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 carrot
  • peas (optional)
  • salt to taste
  • 3 cups water

Preparation

  1. Roast 1 cup of suji or rava in the wok until aroma comes, without making it very dark in color, then transfer it to another vessel.

  2. In the wok, add some ghee and let it become hot.

  3. Add 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds, few curry leaves, and 1 or more chopped green chilies, let it splutter and keep the flame low.

  4. Add 1 teaspoon each of groundnuts, roasted chana dal, and 5-6 cashews, then keep stirring.

  5. Add 1 finely chopped onion and carrot, you can add peas too, add salt and let it cook for 15 minutes at a low flame until onions become translucent and carrots become soft.

  6. Add the roasted rava and mix everything together.

  7. Add 3 cups of water, check salt and add more if needed.

  8. Keep stirring until rava absorbs all water and is cooked.

  9. Serve hot with coconut chutney or chutney of your choice.
