Vegan Pan-Fried Steamed Buns
Ingredients
Dough recipe
- 240 g all-purpose flour or plain flour
- 3 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 2/3 cup warm unsweetened plant-based milk or water
- a pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon oil
Filling
- 1 lb zucchini
- 1 small carrot
- 1/4 cup sliced mushrooms
- 2 stalks scallions or green onions chopped
Filling's seasoning
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon white pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Other
- chopped green onions
- black and white sesame seeds
- oil for cooking
- salt
Preparation
In a bowl, combine the dough ingredients and knead until a smooth dough forms, then cover and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
Grate the zucchini and carrot, slice the mushrooms, and chop the scallions, then mix them together in a bowl.
Add the filling's seasoning to the vegetable mixture and stir well to combine.
After the dough has risen, divide it into portions, flatten each piece, add a spoonful of filling, and seal to form buns.
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat, place the buns seam-side down, add a little water, cover, and steam for a few minutes until the bottoms are golden and crispy, then uncover and cook until done.
Sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
