Vegan Buffalo Tofu Wings

Ingredients

  • 1 lb extra firm or super firm tofu
  • 6 tbsp cornstarch, arrowroot, or tapioca starch
  • 1/4 cup plant milk

Breading mixture

  • 1 cup panko style bread crumbs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp fresh minced parsley

Buffalo sauce

  • 6 tbsp red cayenne pepper hot sauce, ideally Franks RedHot
  • 3 tbsp vegan butter
  • 1/8 tsp granulated garlic
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Preparation

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess water

  2. Cut the tofu into wing-shaped pieces

  3. Mix the plant milk and starch in a bowl to create a batter

  4. Combine the bread crumb mixture ingredients in another bowl

  5. Coat each tofu piece first in the batter, then in the bread crumb mixture

  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C until golden and crispy, about 20-25 minutes

  7. Melt the vegan butter and stir in the hot sauce, granulated garlic, and salt to make the buffalo sauce

  8. Toss the cooked tofu in the buffalo sauce and serve immediately
