Crispy Baked Tofu Tenders with Dip

Ingredients

  • 400g (14oz) extra firm tofu
  • Cornstarch
  • Unsweetened plant-based milk
  • 1 cup panko-style bread crumbs
  • 2.5 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Black pepper
  • Dried basil
  • Hot sauce
  • Vegan butter

Dip

  • Vegan mayonnaise
  • BBQ sauce

Preparation

  1. Cut the tofu into sticks and put between paper towels. Place some weights over the tofu, let drain for about 15 minutes.

  2. Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).

  3. Put the cornstarch in one bowl, the plant milk in a second bowl, and mix together panko, oil, paprika, salt, pepper and dried basil in a third bowl. Pour the crumb mixture onto a plate.

  4. Dip the tofu sticks first in cornstarch then in milk and then roll in crumb mixture and place onto a lined baking sheet.

  5. Bake in an oven for 25 minutes, flip and bake for a further 15 minutes until the tofu is crispy.

  6. Brush tofu sticks with hot sauce and melted vegan butter mix and enjoy.
