The Everything Bagel

Ingredients

  • - 3 cups of strong bread flour
  • - 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast
  • - 1.5 cup of unsweetened non-dairy milk
  • - 1/4 cup melted vegan butter
  • - 1 teaspoon salt
  • - 1/2 tablespoon sugar

Preparation

  1. Place your milk in the microwave to warm. To get the yeast activated, it will need to be between 100° - 115° OR lukewarm if you don't have a thermometer. Do NOT overheat as yeast will die in high heat

  2. Whisk dry yeast into milk. Set it aside for 10-15 minutes. You will know yeast has activated when it forms a foam on top. Add butter to liquid ingredient once yeast has activated

  3. Combine dry ingredients. Start mixing in liquids little by little until it forms a firm dough. You may or may not use all the liquids depending on your dough. You can use a head stand mixer, food processor, or by hand

  4. Knead for about 10 minutes or until it is smooth and elastic. You can tell your dough is done by (1) the dimple test is by pressing the dough with your finger and if it bounces back, it is done

  5. Allow it to rise, for a minimum 2 hours, covered with a cloth in room temperature. For best results, slow ferment the dough in the fridge overnight or up to 24 hours
