Traditional Yam Bharta Indian Side Dish

Ingredients

  • Yam
  • 1/2 tsp oil
  • Jeera
  • Kalonji seeds
  • Mustard seeds
  • Salt
  • Turmeric powder
  • 1 chopped onion
  • Garlic cloves
  • Green chillies
  • Fresh lemon juice

Preparation

  1. Boil the yam and mash it.

  2. Heat 1/2 teaspoon oil in a wok.

  3. Add jeera, kalonji seeds, and mustard seeds.

  4. Add salt, turmeric powder, one chopped onion, garlic cloves, and green chillies.

  5. Sauté for about 15 minutes on low flame.

  6. Add the boiled and mashed yam.

  7. Mix well.

  8. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over it.

  9. Serve as a side dish; it has a consistency similar to guacamole.
