Easy Mint Garlic Naan

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm unsweetened plant milk
  • 2.5-3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons oil for dough
  • oil or plant butter to grease skillet surface
  • 1.5 teaspoons instant dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup plant yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt

Mint-garlic butter

  • 4 tablespoons softened plant butter
  • salt to taste
  • fresh or dried mint as needed
  • 3 cloves crushed garlic

Preparation

  1. Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl, then whisk to combine and set aside for 10 minutes.

  2. Once the yeast is foamy, add oil, yogurt, salt, and flour, and gently bring the ingredients together with a spoon or clean hands.

  3. Continue combining by kneading until roughly together, then transfer to a floured surface and knead well for about 10 minutes until smooth and soft (not sticky); you may use a stand mixer if available.

  4. Cover the dough with a clean towel.

  5. Let the dough rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 45 minutes.

  6. Once doubled, cut the dough into 6 equal pieces.

  7. Roll out each piece using a rolling pin to flatten them; cover with a kitchen towel while preheating the skillet.

  8. Heat a large skillet or non-stick pan to medium heat, preferably cast iron, and brush with a little oil or non-dairy butter.

  9. Place a flatbread in the heated, greased skillet and cook until the flatbread is drying out, especially at the edges, about 2 minutes.

  10. Flip the flatbread and cook the other side until browned and puffed, about 1-2 minutes more

  11. Mix the mint-garlic butter ingredients together to prepare the topping

  12. Brush the cooked naan with the mint-garlic butter and serve
