Delicious Tempeh Burgers

Ingredients

  • 1-8oz block tempeh
  • 1-small onion
  • olive oil
  • 2 slices bread
  • 3/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • 3/4 tsp chili powder
  • 3/4 tsp chipotle
  • 3/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1-1/2 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 tbsp gluten-free tamari or soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp flour

Preparation

  1. Gentle boil 1-8oz block 5 mins to reduce bitterness

  2. Rinse under cold water

  3. Use hands to crumble into mince-like pieces

  4. Sauté 1-small onion in a little olive oil or veggie broth

  5. Add to tempeh crumbles

  6. Crumble 2 slices bread into small chunks into tempeh crumbles

  7. Add 3/4 tsp smoked paprika, 3/4 tsp chili powder, 3/4 tsp chipotle, 3/4 tsp garlic powder, 1-1/2 tbsp nutritional yeast, 1 tbsp gluten-free tamari or soy sauce, OPTIONAL 2 tsp olive oil

  8. Use hands to incorporate spices into tempeh crumbles

  9. Add 2 tbsp flour

  10. Add salt to taste

  11. Form into about 5-6 burgers, about 1/2-3/4 inch thick

  12. Either: bake on lined-sheet at 375F until golden brown, flipping halfway (about 20 minutes)

  13. Or: cook in a little oil in non-stick fry pan
