Cheaters Lazy Mini Fried Buns

Ingredients

  • Dumpling wrappers
  • Juicy dumpling filling (such as from wonton or SJB recipe)

Garnishes

  • Sesame seeds
  • Scallions
  • Shanghai red vinegar or Chinese black vinegar
  • Chili oil (optional)

Preparation

  1. Gently roll out the wrapper to make it slightly larger for easier pleating.

  2. Run some water around the dumpling wrapper, add filling and pleat it closed.

  3. Pan fry over medium heat until light golden in color.

  4. Add 3-4 tablespoons of water, just enough to coat the pan with a thin layer.

  5. Cook over medium low heat for 4-5 minutes or until dumpling wrappers become more transparent and water is mostly gone.

  6. Sprinkle sesame seeds and scallion.

  7. Continue to pan fry, increasing heat if needed but being careful not to burn, until the bottom is crispy again.

  8. Serve with Shanghai red vinegar or Chinese black vinegar and some chili oil if desired.

Tips

  1. This recipe is perfect for using leftovers, such as filling from wonton soup or vegan SJB, and is ideal for Chinese New Year or when you want a shortcut to soup dumplings.
