Zeppole Italian Donuts with Cinnamon Sugar Coating

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon of dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon of maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups of warm water
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup of sugar to coat the doughnuts
  • Sunflower oil to fry

Preparation

  1. In a bowl add the yeast, water, salt and maple syrup and stir and let the mixture stand for 5 minutes.

  2. In another bowl add the flour and olive oil, then the yeast mixture. Mix until you have a sticky dough consistency. Let it rest for 2 hours.

  3. Using a spoon scoop the mixture and drop it in hot oil. Use your finger to scrap the mixture off the spoon.

  4. Mix 1/3 cup of sugar and add cinnamon and combine. Once doughnuts are cooked roll them in the cinnamon sugar. You can also coat them with maple syrup and add some nuts on top.
