Broccoli Casserole with Chicken Cream

Ingredients

  • 1 large head broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs

Preparation

  1. Set the oven rack in the middle position and preheat the oven to 180°C.

  2. Prepare a medium-sized oven-safe dish suitable for serving.

  3. In a deep pot, place a generous amount of water and bring it to a boil over medium heat. Add the broccoli and cook for 5 minutes. Drain the broccoli and place it in the oven dish.

  4. In a medium-sized pot, place the butter and flour. Cook over medium heat, stirring with a hand whisk until it becomes light golden.

  5. Add the chicken broth and stir until the flour dissolves. Add the cream and stir until it boils and forms a chicken cream sauce.

  6. Add the mayonnaise, lemon juice, lemon zest, salt, black pepper, and cinnamon. Stir to combine. Pour the sauce over the broccoli in the dish. Sprinkle the cheese and breadcrumbs over the broccoli.

  7. Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 20 minutes until it becomes light golden.
