Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients

  • 12 cabbage leaves, removed from head and washed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped
  • 3 cups “beef” crumbles
  • 1 cup cooked rice, white or brown
  • 3 cups tomato ? marianna sauce ( prepared or jar sauce will do fine)
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 350°f and grease a 9 x 13- inch baking dish

  2. In a large pot, bring

  3. Water (enough to cover cabbage leaves) to a boil and boil cabbage leaves until they are soft, approximately 10 minutes

  4. Drain water and set leaves aside

  5. In a medium saucepan on a medium heat, sauté onions, garlic in olive oil until tender

  6. Add “beef” crumbles and sauté until browned

  7. Remove from the heat and mix in rice, salt and pepper

  8. Allow to cool enough to handle safely, with clean hands, balls rice and “beef” mixture and stuff cabbage leaves, rolling and folding them into little “packages “, similar to how you would fold a burrito ?, place cabbage rolls in greased baking dish then pour marianna sauce over them

  9. Cover and bake for 45 minuets to 1 hour
