Homemade Falafel
Ingredients
- 2 cans chickpeas⠀
- 1 cup red onion (chopped)⠀
- 1/4 cup parsley⠀
- 4 cloves garlic (peeled)⠀
- 1 tbsp lemon juice⠀
- 2 tsp cumin⠀
- 1 tsp salt⠀
- 1 tsp black pepper⠀
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes⠀
- 1 cup bread crumbs⠀
- olive oil⠀
Preparation
Add the chickpeas, onion, parsley, garlic, lemon juice, and spices to a food processor
Pulse the ingredients together until they’re combined and form a wet paste
Take care not to over-blend!⠀
Transfer the blended mixture to a large mixing bowl and add bread crumbs, mixing until just combined
Cover the mixture with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 1-2 hours
Remove the mixture from the fridge and shape into roughly 18-20 1 inch balls
Heat the oil in a pan, and fry the falafel balls for ~3 mins, flipping half way through
They’re cooked when golden brown and crispy
You can also try baking for lower fat version, coat outside of balls with oil and bake at 425 for 15-25 minutes until crsipt on the outside)
