Vegan Cashew Cheese Sauce

Ingredients

  • 3/4 - 1 cup hot water
  • 1 cup raw cashews
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 Tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt, plus more to taste
  • 1 Tbsp harissa (or sub hot salsa, hot sauce, Ro-Tel, or 1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce)

Preparation

  1. Soak the cashews in hot water for 10-15 minutes or until soft

  2. Drain the cashews if necessary

  3. Add all ingredients to a blender

  4. Blend until smooth and creamy

  5. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed

  6. Heat gently if desired for serving
