Oven-Baked Sesame Ginger Tofu

Ingredients

  • 14 oz firm tofu (Chinese style in water)
  • 3 Tbl light soy sauce
  • 1 Tbl grated fresh ginger
  • 1 Tbl rice vinegar
  • 1 Tbl sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 Tbl corn starch

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 425 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Cut firm tofu into small cubes and place on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes.

  3. While the tofu bakes, whisk the sauce ingredients together in a small sauce pot.

  4. Heat the sauce over medium-high heat while whisking until it thickens and bubbles, about 5 minutes.

  5. Pour the sauce over the cooked tofu on the baking sheet and bake for another 5-10 minutes.

  6. Flip the tofu to coat with the sauce and serve. Alternatively, serve the baked tofu and pour the sauce over it on the plate.

Tips

  1. This recipe is easily made gluten-free by using gluten-free soy sauce or aminos.

Facts

  1. Tofu is a great source of protein and has been eaten for over two thousand years. The first mention was in the Anhui province of China around 150 BC. Soy beans were already popular, but processing them into tofu made it easier to digest and store.
