Baked Tofu with Spicy Mustard Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu

Sauce

  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons old-fashioned mustard
  • 1 tablespoon regular yellow mustard
  • 1.5 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon agave
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seed oil

Preparation

  1. Place the tofu in a paper towel to remove excess water.

  2. Cut the tofu into squares.

  3. Bake the tofu in the oven on the bottom rack at 450°F for 15 minutes.

  4. Flip the tofu pieces and bake for another 15 minutes, then remove from the oven and set aside.

  5. Mince 2 garlic cloves.

  6. Fry the minced garlic in a pan on medium heat for 1 minute.

  7. Add 2 tablespoons old-fashioned mustard, 1 tablespoon regular yellow mustard, 1.5 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon agave, and 1 tablespoon sriracha, then cook for 3 minutes.

  8. Add 1 cup water and 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari.

  9. Turn the stove to high heat and stir until the sauce reduces and thickens.

  10. Once the sauce is thick, add the baked tofu pieces and mix until they are all covered in sauce.

  11. Let it cook for 5 minutes on medium-low heat.

  12. In the last minute, mix in 1 tablespoon of sesame seed oil.

Tips

  1. Ensure the tofu has a light golden color on each side for a bit of crisp.
