Vegan Spicy Mustard Tofu
Ingredients
- 1 block firm tofu
Sauce
- 2 garlic cloves
- 2 tablespoons old-fashioned mustard
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1.5 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon agave
- 1 tablespoon sriracha
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
- 1 tablespoon sesame seed oil
Preparation
Place tofu in paper towel to remove excess water.
Cut tofu into squares and bake in oven on bottom rack at 450°F for 15 minutes.
Flip tofu pieces and bake for another 15 minutes then remove from oven and set aside.
Mince 2 garlic cloves.
Fry garlic in a pan on medium heat for 1 minute.
Add 2 tablespoons old-fashioned mustard, 1 tablespoon yellow mustard, 1.5 tablespoons sugar, 1 tablespoon agave, and 1 tablespoon sriracha.
Cook for 3 minutes then add 1 cup water and 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari.
Turn stove to high heat and keep stirring until sauce reduces and thickens.
Add baked tofu pieces and mix until they are all covered.
Cook for 5 minutes on medium/low heat and on the last minute mix in 1 tablespoon sesame seed oil.
Tips
Aim for a light golden color on each side for a bit of crisp.
Sesame seed oil is key for flavor.
