Homemade Vegan Vegetable Dumplings

Ingredients

Dumpling dough

  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Filling

  • 1/3 block firm or extra firm tofu
  • 1 carrot
  • 5 green onions
  • 1 cup cabbage of choice
  • 1 cup kale
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

Dipping sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/8 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1/2 tbsp garlic powder
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup water

Preparation

  1. Mix the flour and salt in a bowl, add boiling water, and stir to form a dough. Knead until smooth and let rest for 30 minutes.

  2. Finely chop the tofu, carrot, green onions, cabbage, and kale. Combine them in a bowl with ground ginger, sesame oil, and soy sauce. Mix well.

  3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into small circles.

  4. Place a spoonful of filling in each dough circle and fold to seal the dumplings.

  5. Cook the dumplings by steaming for 10-15 minutes or pan-frying until golden brown.

  6. In a small bowl, whisk together all dipping sauce ingredients until well combined.
