Spicy Steamed Vegan Dumplings
Ingredients
Dumpling filling
- 2 lbs bok choy, washed and julienned
- 1 package wonton or dumpling wrappers
- 1 box firm tofu, drained and mashed
- 1/4 cup sautéed mushrooms
- 1 tablespoon black bean sauce
- 1 tablespoon corn starch
- salt to taste
- oil
Spicy sauce
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons chili oil with chili crumbs
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon Chinese black vinegar
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon sugar
Preparation
Mix the bok choy, mashed tofu, sautéed mushrooms, black bean sauce, corn starch, salt, and a little oil to form the filling
Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each dumpling wrapper
Fold and seal the dumplings securely
Arrange the dumplings in a steamer basket without touching each other
Steam over boiling water for 10 to 15 minutes until the wrappers are translucent and the filling is hot
Whisk together soy sauce, chili oil, sesame oil, Chinese black vinegar, grated ginger, and sugar until the sugar dissolves
Serve the dumplings hot with the spicy sauce on the side
