Crispy Baked Tofu with Sesame Sauce
Ingredients
Crispy tofu
- 1 block extra firm tofu
- 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 teaspoon tamari or coconut aminos
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1-2 teaspoons arrowroot powder
Sesame sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup coconut aminos
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon date syrup
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon Sriracha
- 1 teaspoon arrowroot powder
- 1 tablespoon warm water
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
Preparation
Press the tofu to remove excess water and cut it into cubes
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Lightly drizzle the tofu cubes with extra virgin olive oil and coconut aminos. Toss to coat. Sprinkle with garlic powder, paprika, and arrowroot powder, and toss again to coat.
Place the tofu cubes on a parchment-lined baking sheet, at least 1 inch apart.
Bake for 15 minutes. Remove and flip the tofu cubes over. Return to the oven and bake for 10-15 more minutes until desired crispiness is reached.
Meanwhile, make the sesame sauce. Add all sauce ingredients except arrowroot powder, warm water mixture, and sesame seeds to a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer and let thicken. If needed, add the arrowroot powder mixed with 1 tablespoon warm water to thicken.
Remove the tofu from the oven and immediately toss with the sesame sauce. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Serve hot with steamed broccoli, rice or cauliflower rice, purple cabbage, and cilantro.
