Sanderson Sisters Birthday Cake

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup @kingarthurbaking flour (can easily be made with gf flour)
  • 1/3 cup @hersheys coco powder
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs room temp
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup canola oil or melted coconut oil
  • 2 tsp @mccormickspice vanilla
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter room temp
  • 3 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
  • 1/2 cup coco powder
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • salt
  • half a bag of @kraftjetpuffed marshmallows
  • some @ghirardelli semi sweet chocolate chips

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt and set aside.

  3. Beat eggs, sugars, vanilla and oil together.

  4. Pour half of wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined.

  5. Pour half the buttermilk, gently whisk and repeat with the rest of the batter and buttermilk. Batter will be thin.

  6. Prepare 6 inch pans, bake three layers.

  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean.

Frosting

  1. Beat butter for 2 minutes and add in the rest of the ingredients.

Decorating

  1. Melt some chocolate in intervals.

  2. Let cool for five minutes then put into a zip lock bag.

  3. Cut off the edge and create squiggly type trees on parchment.

  4. Freeze for 5-10 minutes.

  5. For the spider web, take half a bag of marshmallows and melt or stir in intervals until creamy.

  6. Allow to cool for 5-7 minutes.

  7. Use your fingers and stretch the marshmallow all around the frosted cake. It should be messy!

  8. Add in the trees on top and enjoy.
