Sweet and Spicy Gochujang Tofu
Ingredients
- 250g firm tofu, sliced
- Cornstarch, to coat (optional)
- 1.5 tbsp gochujang
- 1 tbsp light soy sauce
- 2 tsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp chilli oil
- Pinch of ground white pepper
- 2 tbsp hot water
Garnish
- Sesame seeds
- Green onions
Preparation
For extra crispy tofu, coat in a light layer of cornstarch. If you skip this step, you can fry straight away, but it won’t be as crispy.
Heat a splash of oil in a frypan over medium heat until hot. Dust off any excess cornstarch on the tofu slices and place into the pan. Cook on both sides until golden and crispy.
In the meantime, mix together the remaining ingredients to make your sauce.
Once the tofu is golden, turn the heat down to low and pour in your sauce. Toss well until sauce has thickened and coated all of the tofu pieces.
Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds and serve with rice and cucumbers for an extra crunch. Enjoy immediately while hot.
Tips
Toast sesame seeds on a pan until golden for better flavor.
