Crispy Tofu Bowls
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sweetener (eg. brown sugar, maple syrup…)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/8 tsp ground black pepper
- 2 stalks green onions, finely chopped
- 1 block (450g) firm tofu
- Cornstarch, to coat
- 1-2 tbsp cooking oil
Preparation
Combine the soy sauce, sweetener, sesame oil, black pepper, and green onions in a bowl. Mix well and set aside.
Drain the firm tofu and slice it into rectangular pieces. Lightly coat the tofu in cornstarch, dusting off any excess.
Heat the oil in a frypan over medium-high heat. Add the tofu slices and fry until golden and crispy on both sides.
Reduce the heat to low, pour in the sauce, and toss until the tofu is well coated and the sauce has reduced.
Serve over rice, garnish with sesame seeds, and enjoy with a side of cucumber.
Notes
The cornstarch step is optional and adds a crispy skin to the tofu.
