Sticky Garlic Tofu Dish
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm or extra firm tofu, about 350g
- 2 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tbsp Tamari or soy sauce
- 3 garlic cloves, finely minced
To serve
- 1 cup uncooked brown rice
- 3-4 spring onions, finely chopped
- A generous sprinkle of sesame seeds
- 1 tsp chilli flakes (optional)
Preparation
Press the tofu between 2 tea towels to remove excess water.
Cover it with a bowl and place a heavy cast iron pan on top.
Leave it for 10 minutes to squeeze out as much water as possible.
Chop the tofu into cubes.
In a frying pan on medium heat, add soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and minced garlic, and stir well.
Add the tofu cubes and mix to coat with the sauce.
Remove from heat, let cool, and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, cook the brown rice according to package instructions.
In a frying pan, add sesame oil; once hot, add tofu cubes in a single layer with the sauce.
Fry for 5 minutes without flipping, then flip and cook for another 5 minutes.
Add chopped spring onion at the last minute.
Serve with cooked brown rice and a generous sprinkle of sesame seeds.
