Afelia's Quick Homemade Hummus

Ingredients

  • 1 can of chick peas, drained
  • 3 tsp of sesame seeds
  • 2 cloves of garlic crushed
  • 1.5 - 2 tbsp lemon juice (adjust to your taste)
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • olive oil or odourless oil as required (I used corn oil as my kids don't like the taste of olive oil, sunflower oil is also a good alternative)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to your taste)
  • extra oil, paprika and parsley, coriander or chives for garnishing

Preparation

  1. Start by lightly toasting your sesame seeds over a low heat in a pan until golden brown and you can smell the aroma.

  2. Place the toasted sesame seeds in a blender and pulse until fine.

  3. Add the drained chick peas, 2 cloves of crushed garlic, 1.5 - 2 tbsp lemon juice and 1/2 tsp of paprika.

  4. Blitz everything together. Open the hole in the lid and start to drizzle oil into the blender till you can see the ingredients start to blend into a smooth paste. Keep adding oil till you're satisfied with the consistency.

  5. Lastly season with salt. I added 1/2 tsp of salt and I found this was enough, taste and adjust if necessary.

  6. Place your hummus in a bowl. Drizzle some oil over the top, sprinkle a little paprika and garnish with some parsley, coriander or chives.
