Homemade Seasoned Croutons for Salads and Snacks

Ingredients

  • 2 slices of bread (sprouted whole grain recommended)
  • Oil (as needed)
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt
  • Onion powder
  • Minced garlic

No-oil alternative

  • Aquafaba (liquid from chickpea can)

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

  2. Line a baking tray with parchment paper (optional).

  3. Cut 2 slices of bread into small squares.

  4. In a bowl, mix oil with garlic powder, salt, onion powder, and minced garlic.

  5. Toss the bread cubes in the mixture to coat evenly.

  6. Bake for 5 minutes, then flip each crouton to prevent burning, and bake for another 3 minutes.

  7. Adjust baking time based on your oven to avoid overcooking.

Baking tips

  1. For a no-oil version, omit the oil and use aquafaba to bind the seasonings to the bread.

  2. Aquafaba is the liquid from a chickpea can and helps mimic egg white properties for better adhesion.
