Indian Bajra Millet Khichdi

Ingredients

  • 1 cup half-cooked millet
  • 1 cup pre-soaked yellow moong dal
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon asafoetida
  • 3-4 cloves finely chopped garlic
  • 2 finely chopped green chilies
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped mixed vegetables (cauliflower, green peas, carrots)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Kashmiri red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Water
  • Coriander leaves

Preparation

  1. Heat up the pressure cooker

  2. Add 2 tablespoons ghee

  3. Add 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

  4. Wait for the cumin seeds to crackle

  5. Add 1/2 teaspoon asafoetida

  6. Add 3-4 cloves of finely chopped garlic

  7. Add 2 finely chopped green chilies

  8. Mix well

  9. Add 1 small finely chopped onion

  10. Add salt

  11. Add chopped vegetables: cauliflower, green peas, and carrots

  12. Add 1 teaspoon turmeric powder

  13. Add 1.5 teaspoons Kashmiri red chili powder

  14. Add 1/2 teaspoon garam masala

  15. Mix well

  16. Add 1 cup half-cooked millet

  17. Add 1 cup pre-soaked yellow moong dal

  18. Add 1.5 cups water

  19. Mix well

  20. Add coriander leaves

  21. Close the pressure cooker and cook for 3 whistles

  22. After 3 whistles, open the cooker

  23. Mix again

  24. Plate and garnish with coriander leaves
