Authentic Mexican Molcajete Salsa

Ingredients

  • 2-3 Roma tomatoes
  • 3 chiles de Arbol
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1/4 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1/4 cup onion
  • 1/4 cup cilantro

Preparation

  1. Roast the tomatoes, chiles de Arbol, and garlic until charred and softened.

  2. Finely chop the onion and cilantro.

  3. In a molcajete or food processor, combine the roasted ingredients with the chopped onion, cilantro, and salt, then mash or blend until the desired chunky consistency is achieved.

Tips

  1. For an authentic texture, use a molcajete; a food processor can substitute for a smoother result.

  2. Adjust salt and spiciness to taste, and serve with tortilla chips, tacos, or beans.
