Crispy Air-Fried Popcorn Tofu
Ingredients
- 1 block extra firm tofu
- 1/2 cup nutritional yeast
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- salt and pepper to taste
Sauce
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce or Tamari
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon sriracha sauce
- 1 tablespoon flaxseed meal
- 1 tablespoon water
Preparation
Freeze the tofu overnight and defrost it first thing in the morning.
Press the tofu to remove most of the water, using hands to press between two small cutting boards over the sink if no tofu press is available.
Place nutritional yeast and garlic powder in a medium bowl and mix together.
Pull the tofu apart into about 2-inch pieces by hand.
Lightly season each tofu piece with salt and pepper, then dunk it in the nutritional yeast and garlic powder mixture, ensuring all crevices are coated.
Air fry the coated tofu pieces for 15-25 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on desired crispiness, and serve fresh or reheat in air fryer for 5-10 minutes if leftover.
In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce or Tamari, maple syrup, sriracha sauce, flaxseed meal, and water; mix well to create the sauce
Serve the crispy tofu with the prepared sauce
