Homemade Cinnamon Roll Cake
Ingredients
Sauce
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 4 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Filling mixture
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon
Cake mixture
- 3 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 cup fine granulated sugar
- 1.5 cups milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup melted butter
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and grease a 13 by 9 inch baking dish, then set it aside
For the filling mixture, place butter, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and cardamom in a bowl and stir until combined, then set aside
For the cake mixture, in a mixer bowl, add flour, salt, baking powder, sugar, milk, eggs, and vanilla, then mix on medium speed for 3 minutes until smooth, scraping the bowl occasionally
Remove the mixer and gradually add the melted butter, stirring gently with a spoon until fully incorporated
Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan and use a spoon to spread it evenly
Using a spoon, add dollops of the filling mixture on top of the cake batter, then use a knife to swirl it in gently, dividing the filling into about 12 equal parts for even distribution
Bake the cake for about 40 minutes until it is golden and cooked through, then let it cool for 10 minutes before adding the sauce
For the sauce, in a bowl, combine powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla, and stir well until smooth, then spread it over the cake, allow it to cool completely, and cut into 12 pieces
