Vegan Chinese Bbq Mushroom Pork
Ingredients
- 350g oyster mushrooms in a cluster
- 3 tbs hoisin sauce
- 2.25 tbs fermented red beancurd
- 3 tbs shaoxing wine
- 0.25 tsp 5 spice powder
- 0.5 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbs dark soy sauce
Preparation
Most Char Siu sauce has some sort of red food dye... I had some homemade Annatto oil which is a vibrant red oil that is a natural dye DM if you want details
Handful of woodchips, soaked in water for 30 mins
Mix all ingredients (besides mushrooms and agave syrup) in a bowl to form a marinade Press and sear mushrooms in a very hot skillet... see my highlights for a guide. Add mushrooms to marinade, set aside for 1 hour minimum.
Fire up 1 side of the BBQ. Place woodchips in a smoking tray or foil that you've punched holes in and place atop the burner.
On the other side of the grill i.e. the side not receiving direct heat, place your marinated mushroom steaks. Close BBQ lid and let the mushrooms cook low and slow for 50 minutes flipping and basting every 10 minutes
