Sticky Tofu with Ginger, Sesame & Garlic

Ingredients

  • 400 g extra firm tofu⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  • 2 garlic cloves⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  • 1 thumb of ginger⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  • 2 tbsp tamari or soy sauce⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  • 1 pinch chili flakes⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Preparation

  1. Take the tofu out of its packet, drain the water and pat the tofu dry with a paper towel. The firmer and more dry the better!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  2. Press the garlic in a garlic press and grate the ginger.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  3. In a bowl, whisk together all the ingredients for the marinade.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  4. Cut the tofu into bite sized chunks and marinate for at least 10 minutes.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  5. Heat a pan to medium/high heat and spoon in the tofu (save the marinade in the bowl) and fry for about 8-10 minutes until golden brown. Stir every now to make sure all sides get nice n caramelized.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  6. Add the remaining marinade and turn off the heat. Give it a stir and serve!⠀
