Spicy Thai Relish with Shrimp Paste Substitute

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cloves garlic
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon shrimp paste substitute
  • 2 birdseye chilies
  • 1 teaspoon palm sugar
  • juice of half a lime
  • 1.5 tablespoons light soy sauce

Preparation

  1. Pound all ingredients in a mortar and pestle until a relish forms. This should only take a couple of minutes.

  2. A food processor can also be used, but best results come from a mortar and pestle.

  3. Enjoy with crisp raw vegetables like cucumber, carrot, cabbage, or serve over hot rice.
