Fluffy Homemade Vegan Flat Bread

Ingredients

  • 3 1/3 cups bread flour (plus 1/4 cup more if needed)
  • 1-1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons warm unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (cane sugar or coconut sugar)
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons melted vegan butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Avocado oil or olive oil

Preparation

  1. Heat almond milk in the microwave for 45 seconds or until warm, then combine it with sugar in a bowl, mix to combine, sprinkle yeast on top, and allow it to sit for about 5 minutes.

  2. Add melted vegan butter and salt to the mixture, then add flour a cup at a time until 3-1/3 cups are incorporated and mix until well combined. The dough will be sticky, so knead it with your hands for 4-5 minutes, adding up to 1/4 cup more flour if it is too sticky.

  3. Transfer the dough to a bowl coated with cooking spray or olive oil, cover with a dish cloth, and let it sit for about an hour or until doubled in size. Then divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each into circles using a rolling pin.

  4. Heat a pan over medium heat, brush one side of each dough circle with a small amount of avocado oil or olive oil, and cook oil-side down until browned. Flip the bread and cook the other side until golden, then remove from heat, brush with more oil, and sprinkle with salt.
