Savory Hot Dog Pastry with Cheese and Herbs
Ingredients
Dough
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon fine instant yeast
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter or oil
Filling
- 6 large hot dogs
- 1 teaspoon coarse salt
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon chopped chili
- 1 small green onion, chopped with leaves
- 1/4 cup grated Romano or Parmesan cheese
For glazing
- 1 egg
Preparation
In a mixer bowl, place flour, yeast, salt, and sugar; attach dough hook and run for a few seconds to mix the ingredients
Add milk and butter, continue running on low speed for a few minutes to get a smooth dough, then let the dough rise in a warm place
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius
Cut the hot dogs lengthwise, depending on the type used
On a floured surface, roll out the dough to a rectangle approximately 13 by 9 inches
Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into 9 long strips
Prepare a wide shallow tray and place the strips on it
Place two hot dog pieces side by side and weave the dough into a lattice pattern, repeat to cover all hot dogs according to size
Brush the dough surface with egg using a brush
Sprinkle coarse salt, oregano, chili, green onion, and cheese over the pastry surface
Let it rest for a bit, then bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and serve warm
