Savory Hot Dog Pastry with Cheese and Herbs

Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine instant yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter or oil

Filling

  • 6 large hot dogs
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon chopped chili
  • 1 small green onion, chopped with leaves
  • 1/4 cup grated Romano or Parmesan cheese

For glazing

  • 1 egg

Preparation

  1. In a mixer bowl, place flour, yeast, salt, and sugar; attach dough hook and run for a few seconds to mix the ingredients

  2. Add milk and butter, continue running on low speed for a few minutes to get a smooth dough, then let the dough rise in a warm place

  3. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius

  4. Cut the hot dogs lengthwise, depending on the type used

  5. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to a rectangle approximately 13 by 9 inches

  6. Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into 9 long strips

  7. Prepare a wide shallow tray and place the strips on it

  8. Place two hot dog pieces side by side and weave the dough into a lattice pattern, repeat to cover all hot dogs according to size

  9. Brush the dough surface with egg using a brush

  10. Sprinkle coarse salt, oregano, chili, green onion, and cheese over the pastry surface

  11. Let it rest for a bit, then bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and serve warm
