Blackened Tofu Nourish Bowl
Ingredients
- 1-14oz block extra-firm tofu
- 2 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
- 3 tsp paprika
- 1-1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1-1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1-1/2 tsp finely ground black pepper
- 1-1/2 tsp corn starch
- about 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 tsp chipotle powder
- optional: small amount of toasted sesame oil or oil of choice
Preparation
Press and pat dry 1-14oz block extra-firm tofu, removing excess liquid.
Cut tofu into 6 rectangular pieces.
Marinate tofu slabs in 2 tbsp tamari or soy sauce in a shallow dish for about 10 minutes, flipping halfway.
Meanwhile, mix spices: 3 tsp paprika, 1-1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1-1/2 tsp onion powder, 1-1/2 tsp finely ground black pepper, 1-1/2 tsp corn starch, about 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste), 1/4 tsp chipotle powder.
Press tofu slabs into spice mixture, making sure to generously coat both sides.
Option 1: Heat a small amount of toasted sesame oil (or oil of choice) in a non-stick skillet and cook both sides until a dark crust forms.
Option 2 (oil-free): Bake tofu on a lined baking sheet at 400F until a crust forms, about 25 minutes, flipping halfway.
