Vegan Halawet El Jebn Recipe

Ingredients

  • for halawet el jeben:
  • 200 grs ada’s vegan mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup non-refined sugar
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of semolina
  • 1 tsp rose water
  • 1 tsp orange blossom water
  • for sugar syrup:
  • 3 cups non-refined sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup of water
  • 2 tbsps of lemon juice
  • 1 tsp orange blossom water

  • 1- slice ada’s vegan mozzarella & soak in cold water for 2-3 hours to reduce the salt.
  • 2- put sugar & water in a pot on fire & let them boil for 10 mins.
  • 3- add ada’s vegan mozzarella & mix continuously till it melts & the mixture becomes well combined. be patient as this step takes time.
  • 4- add semolina & continue mixing for a while.
  • 5- add the rose water & the orange blossom water & keep mixing.
  • 6- when the mixture is homogenous turn off the fire & allow the mixture cool for a while.
  • 7- pour the mixture on top of a wax paper, pat it well with the hands to turn it into a thin layer, then tear it into small pieces & put in a dish.
  • 8- chill in the fridge.
  • 9- serve with oriental sugar syrup on top.

  2. Slice Ada’s Vegan Mozzarella & soak in cold water for 2-3 hours to reduce the salt

  4. Add Ada’s Vegan Mozzarella & mix continuously till it melts & the mixture becomes well combined. Be patient as this step takes time

  5. Add semolina & continue mixing for a while

  6. Add the rose water & the orange blossom water & keep mixing

  7. When the mixture is homogenous turn off the fire & allow the mixture cool for a while

  8. Pour the mixture on top of a wax paper, pat it well with the hands to turn it into a thin layer, then tear it into small pieces & put in a dish

  9. Chill in the fridge

  10. Serve with Oriental Sugar Syrup on top

  11. Oriental Sugar Syrup

  12. Place the sugar, water & lemon juice in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon to dissolve the sugar

  13. Once it boils reduce heat to low & simmer for 7 mins. Do not cover the saucepan

  14. Add the orange blossom water and simmer for 1 more min

  15. Set aside to completely cool down

  16. Extra Tips

  17. Using non-refined sugar, makes the Halawet el Jebn browner than the usual. If you want it to be as white as the original one, use coconut sugar or regular white sugar

  18. You can use Maple Syrup instead of making Sugar Syrup

  19. While serving, you can decorate with ground pistachios and orange flowers jam
