4-Ingredient Vegan Cauliflower Pops

Ingredients

  • 650g cauliflower florets (from 2 medium heads)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • Chopped basil, for serving
  • Tomato ketchup or favourite dipping sauce, for serving
  • Canola oil or other neutral oil, for frying

Preparation

  1. Steam or boil the cauliflower florets until cooked through.

  2. Process until it turns into a very fine consistency, almost like mashed potato.

  3. Transfer mixture into a bowl.

  4. Add in the minced garlic, salt, and flour. Mix well.

  5. Scoop around 1/2 tbsp of the mixture. Form into small balls.

  6. Heat oil in a frying pan. Once hot, add in the balls. You may need to cook them in 2-3 batches depending on the size of your pan.

  7. Cook until the balls are golden brown and crisp on all sides.

  8. Remove the balls from the pan and then place in a strainer to drain excess oil.

  9. Turn off heat once all balls are cooked.

  10. Garnish with some chopped basil, if desired.

  11. Dip in your favourite dipping sauce--I used ketchup for mine. Enjoy!

Baking alternative

  1. Heat oven to 350F. I use an oven toaster with temperature settings.

  2. Place balls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

  3. Brush the balls with some oil.

  4. Bake for 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until balls are brown on each side.

  5. Note that when baking the balls will not be evenly golden brown compared to frying.
