Khichdi

Ingredients

  • 2 -3 cups of brown or basmati rice
  • 1/2 cup masoor dal
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 3 green chillies sliced
  • 1 tbsp chopped mint
  • 6 cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp shah jeera
  • 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • salt to taste
  • 2 -3 Cups of Brown or Basmati Rice
  • 1/2 Cup Masoor Dal
  • 1 Cup Chopped Onions
  • 3 Green Chillies sliced
  • 1 tbsp Chopped Mint

  • 2 Cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp Shah Jeera
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • Salt to Taste

Preparation

  1. Mix the rice and masoor daal

  2. Wash and soak this in water for 30 minutes

  3. Drain and set aside

  4. In a pot add cloves, cinnamon and shah jeera

  5. Add the onions and ginger garlic paste

  6. Saute the onions in a tspn of water until it is browned

  7. Add turmeric, green chillies and mint ant mix well

  8. Add the soaked and drained rice and masoor daal, mix it together

  9. Add 5 cups of water and mix everything

  10. Cover and cook till the rice and lentils are done on slow flame or a rice cooker

  11. Serve hot with tomato chutney and chickpea flour veggie omelettes

  12. Enjoy!
