Healthy Oil-Free Indian Khichdi with Spices
Ingredients
- 2-3 cups brown or basmati rice
- 1/2 cup masoor dal
- 1 cup chopped onions
- 3 green chillies sliced
- 1 tablespoon chopped mint
- 6 cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon shah jeera
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- salt to taste
Preparation
Mix the rice and masoor dal.
Wash and soak this in water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
In a pot add cloves, cinnamon and shah jeera.
Add the onions and ginger garlic paste.
Saute the onions in a teaspoon of water until browned.
Add turmeric, green chillies and mint and mix well.
Add the soaked and drained rice and masoor dal, mix together.
Add 5 cups of water and mix everything.
Cover and cook till the rice and lentils are done on slow flame or in a rice cooker.
Serve hot with tomato chutney and chickpea flour veggie omelettes. Enjoy!
