Smoky Oven-Baked Tempeh Bacon

Ingredients

  • 200g tempeh
  • 1 clove garlic, grated/minced
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tbsp liquid smoke
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • A sprinkle of black pepper
  • Salt (optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.

  2. Slice the tempeh into thin slices no thicker than half a centimetre and lay them on the greaseproof paper.

  3. Mix all the marinade ingredients in a bowl. Using a brush, apply the sauce to one side of the tempeh slices, let them sit for two minutes, then flip and apply to the other side.

  4. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, flipping the tempeh halfway through the cooking time.

Serving suggestions

  1. Serve the tempeh bacon in a sandwich with spinach, vegan mayo, and sweet chilli sauce.
