Vanilla Sugar Cookies with Decoration
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Decoration
- Coarse sugar
- Food coloring
Preparation
Place the rack in the middle of the oven and preheat to 180°C.
Prepare shallow baking sheets.
Sift flour, baking powder, and salt onto parchment paper or into a deep plate.
In the mixer bowl, place butter and sugar, attach the paddle, and mix on medium speed for 3 minutes until fluffy and creamy.
Add egg and vanilla, and mix on medium speed until incorporated.
Add the flour mixture and mix on low speed until dough forms and pulls away from the sides.
On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 5mm thick using a rolling pin.
Use a 2-inch decorative cookie cutter to cut the dough into flower shapes.
Place the cookies on the baking sheets with 1 inch between each.
In a small bowl, mix a little coarse sugar with a drop or two of food coloring using your fingers.
Sprinkle the colored sugar on the cookies.
Bake for 12 minutes until the bottom is light golden.
Remove from oven, transfer cookies to a wire rack using a wide metal spatula, cool completely, and serve.
