Buffalo Pizza with Soy Curls
Ingredients
- Pizza Dough (store-bought)
- Buffalo Pizza Sauce
- Soy Curls
- Vegan Cheese (e.g., @violife_foods)
- Scallions
- Diced Yellow Onions
Buffalo Curls
- 1 cup soy curls
- Hot water
- 1/2 vegetable bouillon or 1/2 tsp vegetable bouillon paste
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/4 cup vegan Buffalo sauce
Buffalo Pizza Sauce
- 2 tbsp tahini
- Juice of half a lemon
- 2 tbsp vegan Buffalo sauce
- 2-3 tbsp water
- 2 tsp maple syrup
Preparation
Set the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Make the soy curls by rehydrating them with hot water in a bowl, enough to cover them. Add the bouillon and soy sauce, and let them sit for 5-10 minutes to soften.
Drain the soy curls and gently squeeze out as much liquid as possible. Coat them with cornstarch and the seasonings listed, then sauté them in a pan to further remove liquid and firm them up. After a few minutes, add the Buffalo sauce and sauté until the soy curls are lightly browned.
If you don't have soy curls, you can sauté chickpeas with Buffalo sauce instead and use them as a topping for your pizza. No need to soak them with broth and soy sauce.
Combine the sauce ingredients for the Buffalo Pizza Sauce and thin it out as desired. Set it aside.
Roll out your pizza dough and spread the sauce over the top. Sprinkle vegan cheese, diced onions, and the cooked soy curls pieces on top. Add some more vegan cheese.
Place the pizza in the preheated oven for 13 minutes.
Let the pizza rest, then cut it into slices and top with scallions.
