Homemade Teriyaki Sauce
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon minced ginger (optional)
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons room temperature water
Preparation
Mix the cornstarch and water in a bowl.
Add the remaining ingredients and mix.
Pour the mixture into a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
Simmer until the sauce thickens, about 7 minutes.
Turn off the heat and set aside for use.
Tips
If using regular soy sauce, reduce to 1/4 cup and adjust to taste as it may be saltier.
Store the sauce in a bottle in the refrigerator for future use.
