Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced ginger (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons room temperature water

Preparation

  1. Mix the cornstarch and water in a bowl.

  2. Add the remaining ingredients and mix.

  3. Pour the mixture into a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.

  4. Simmer until the sauce thickens, about 7 minutes.

  5. Turn off the heat and set aside for use.

Tips

  1. If using regular soy sauce, reduce to 1/4 cup and adjust to taste as it may be saltier.

  2. Store the sauce in a bottle in the refrigerator for future use.
