Vegan Spicy Steamed Dumplings

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs bok choy
  • 1 package wonton or dumpling wrapper
  • 1 box firm tofu
  • 1/4 cup sautéed mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon black bean sauce
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • salt to taste
  • oil

Spicy sauce

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chili oil with chili crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese black vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Preparation

  1. Drain and mash the tofu.

  2. Julienne the bok choy.

  3. Sauté the mushrooms in oil until cooked.

  4. Mix the mashed tofu, julienned bok choy, sautéed mushrooms, black bean sauce, corn starch, and salt to form the filling.

  5. Fill the dumpling wrappers with the mixture and seal them securely.

  6. Steam the dumplings for 10 to 15 minutes or until fully cooked.

  7. In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, chili oil with chili crumbs, sesame oil, Chinese black vinegar, grated ginger, and sugar until the sugar dissolves.

  8. Serve the steamed dumplings with the spicy sauce.
